This year the Prince Edward Island government will begin to observe September 30th as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Along with Provincial government offices, the Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission and Cannabis Management Corporation stores, Distribution Centre, and Head Office will also be closed for the day.
Also celebrated as Orange Shirt Day, this date is now known nationwide as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day calls on all Canadians and Islanders to remember the history of residential schools, and the intergenerational impacts of its legacy on First Nations and Indigenous peoples.
Closing the Liquor Control Commission and Cannabis Management Corporation for the day allows staff to honour residential school survivors and victims, whether that’s a day of quiet reflection or by participating in a community event.
We encourage everyone to take the time to learn more about the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
